Polar Pioneer is a small expedition vessel that takes just 50 guests on incredible expedition adventures. We are excited to announce she is back after an extensive refurbishment sailing in Svalbard, Greenland, Antarctica and South Georgia. We offer the smallest group sizes in the Arctic and Antarctic. Shot in Svalbard in 2022 this video shows a Secret Atlas expedition on the refitted Polar Pioneer. Hear from our expedition team & guests on what they like about Polar Pioneer. Forthcoming Secret Atlas departures on Polar Pioneer Include:
– 15-day South Georgia only expedition to do an in-depth exploration of this remote island
– 12-day expedition to explore Antarctica
– 10-day expedition to explore the furthest reaches of Svalbard Polar Pioneer has been taken on under new Scandinavian ownership after being chartered by Aurora Expeditions for over 20 years.
She is a vessel with lots of experience exploring the polar regions and in our opinion is the best size possible. Transcription: ‘Polar Pioneer was built as a really high ice class vessel.
She is really made for these kind of environments. So we can take our guests on a real expedition adventure.’ ‘Polar Pioneer is fantastic. It is small enough to give that personable small ship experience whilst still being big enough to handle going down to Antarctica.’ ‘It’s got really a lovely atmosphere.
It’s getting to know everyone on the bridge onboard, getting to know the captain and the crew.’ ‘I like the small expedition style. You can get to know the people onboard. You can be fast. If you see something good you can be out there straight away and enjoy it.’
‘You get to know the people and the outings don’t take that much time. It’s super effective. When some of the guides spot something you go into the Zodiacs and have a great time.’ ‘I think the Polar pioneer is a really great ship to be on. The cabins are nice.
You can go on the bridge. The food has been really good. Just a cosy ship to be on.’ ‘If you want to explore the polar regions then Polar Pioneer is an amazing way of doing it because it creates an authentic experience that is really missing on those larger ships.’ ‘We are so lucky because it is so easy to get out because there aren’t many people and just at dinner times mixing with loads of different people you can form a close bond with the guides and all the other passengers so that is really nice.’
‘This is a real expedition. If you would be on a bigger vessel it would be a cruise. This is an expedition. So real expedition cruising on a real expedition vessel.’
