Feed Your Inner-Explorer in Alaska

Soak up nature raw and unfiltered in the Great Bear Rainforest. Steep coastal fjords rise from sheltered waters fed by countless inlets and estuaries. Here in the fall, salmon are making a magnificent journey to their natal steams to spawn. Killer whales, eagles and bears are waiting… Set sail to one of Earth’s wildest places, making journeys of inner discovery that continue long after you return home.
If this trip has been on your bucket list for some time, now is a great time to go. Kitasoo Xai’xais and Gitga’at First Nations are celebrating a ban on hunting black bears that is aimed at saving the spirit bear, thought to be the rarest bear in the world: “This hunting closure is a monumental occasion, and a big step towards protecting these spirit bears that are so culturally important to the region.”

More than a century ago, British sea captain George Vancouver sailed the northwest along our enigmatic Pacific coastline, announcing he had discovered a place so wild, he almost didn’t map it. If only he had seen half of what we experience aboard the Swell, he’d have left with a very different view of the misnamed Desolation Sound. The region boasts vast, secluded sea and shoreline, and a resurgence of killer whales, porpoise and other marine life. On this adventure, you’ll cruise an inland sea, the Strait of Georgia, travelling from the Discovery Islands into Desolation Sound. Beachcomb and unwind as local naturalists illuminate the natural world around you.

Desolation Sound and Fjords of BC aboard MV Swell runs October 19 to 15, 2022 (3 cabins still available) and aboard MV Cascadia runs October 17 to 23, 2022. Prices start at $4,300 on Swell and $5,000 on Cascadia before taxes, based on cabin category.
