Sustainability in Action with Aurora Expeditions

It is World Nature Conservation Day today, a day that shines a spotlight on the preservation of our environment and the vital importance of maintaining a healthy planet.

At Aurora, we have an ongoing commitment to responsible, respectful travel. As founding members of IAATO and AECO, we take our responsibility seriously. We care about reducing our footprint environmentally and take real actions for the care of the planet.

And it’s not just on World Nature Conservation Day – we make this commitment each and every day.

We are 100% Carbon Neutral, ensure responsible travel any time we go ashore with the utmost respect for our incredible destinations, and feature enriching and participative Citizen Science Programs so our expeditioners can get involved and give back to the planet too. It is our hope that when your clients travel with us, they will become ambassadors for the planet.

Our Planet – Minimal Footprint

Respectful travel is at the heart of our ethos, and this means we focus on sustainability efforts at every level.

Our game-changing ULSTEIN X-BOW® redefines expedition cruising, helping to produce fewer emissions and overall lower fuel consumption. In addition, we employ eco-friendly products and cleaning on board, reduced single-use plastics and overall efficient energy, water and waste management.

We care for the places we visit. When we travel ashore, we do so responsibly – with strict adherence to all environmental IAATO and AECO guidelines.

Our future goals include a sustainable food program (launching late 2022) and B Corp Certification (from 2023).

Education & EnrichmentWe believe that travel is the best educator and we offer the chance to enrich your clients’ understanding of the places we travel to.

Our Citizen Science Program is designed for like-minded travellers to share new discoveries and deepen their connection to the natural world in a relaxed, informal and fun environment – on board our ships, on our shore expeditions and in our Zodiacs. In fact, our new small ship, the Sylvia Earle, has a dedicated Citizen Science centre.Explore Citizen ScienceWomen in ConservationOur new purpose-built ship Sylvia Earle is a floating ambassador for the planet. In a world first, each of the vessel’s public decks bear the names of pioneering female conservationists – Dr. Carden Wallace AM, Joanna Ruxton, Sharon Kwok, Bernadette Demientieff, Dr. Asha de Vos and Hanli Prinsloo – along with a deck dedicated to Dr. Earle.

We are so proud to be able to honour these incredibly talented women and help shine a light on their important conservation causes.Learn more
