After pioneering fly and sail expeditions to the White Continent over two decades ago, we now look forward to the future of Antarctic Exploration with Magellan Discoverer, our most ambitious project yet. Currently under construction at the ASENAV shipyard in Valdivia, Chile, and launching in December 2026, this cutting-edge polar vessel embodies over 20 years of Antarctica21 expertise and innovation. I am thrilled to share the latest update on this exciting project with you.
Construction MilestonesOver 41% of the hull and superstructure have been assembled. The diagram below provides a visual reference of the ship’s sections that have been completed and those under construction.

In addition to building structural blocks, over the last month, the shipyard has made progress in several areas, including the fabrication of ventilation components, a variety of pipes and connectors, and multiple electrical panels with their housing and components.
We are pleased to announce the completion of our new vessel’s exterior design, showcasing Antarctica21’s unmistakable personality. Updated visual renderings, reflecting the ship’s distinctive new livery, are now accessible within the Agent Area’s Images and Videos section of our website.
Interior DesignIn collaboration with the renowned Tomas Tillberg Design studio, we have crafted the perfect blend of elegance and adventure for Magellan Discoverer’s accommodations. Inspired by sleek, modern yacht design, our vision sets a sophisticated aesthetic, evolving Magellan Explorer’s style while drawing a cohesive line between the two sister ships. Carefully selected materials and furnishings create a haven of comfort and elegance, complemented by practical features tailored to support the expedition experience of our guests. The first renderings are now available for download from the Agent Area of our website.
The ship will join our fleet during the 2026-27 season, with details to be announced in just a few days, on November 12, 2024.
As the building of Magellan Discoverer advances, we will keep you informed of our progress. You can expect to receive the next update in early 2025.
