Building Progress – Magellan Discoverer

Over two decades since our first Antarctic air-cruise expedition, we continue ahead towards the future of Antarctic exploration with Magellan Discoverer, our most ambitious endeavor to date. Currently under construction at the ASENAV shipyard in Valdivia, Chile, and set to launch in December 2026, this state-of-the-art polar vessel represents the culmination of over 20 years of Antarctica21’s experience and innovation. We are pleased to share the latest update on this exciting project with you.
Construction Milestones
The hull blocks are now fully assembled. All the steel superstructure components has been fabricated, and 95% has been assembled. The diagram below provides a visual reference of the construction progress.
On October 24, 2025, we proudly marked the ceremonial float-out of Magellan Discoverer at the ASENAV shipyard in Valdivia, Chile. It was a moment filled with pride and emotion, one we’re excited to share with you through this video.

Following its successful launch, Magellan Discoverer has entered the final stages of construction. All the ship’s essential systems, ranging from advanced navigation and stabilizers to control panels, doors, and ventilation, have now been installed. Work is also progressing steadily on the vessel’s piping and electrical systems, while interior outfitting is advancing, with cabin and public space furnishings entering the final stages of procurement.
During the upcoming months, work will continue focusing on interior outfitting, integration of onboard systems, technical trials, and maritime certifications.
