Crew News

Our crew are a pretty incredible group of individuals; if you have been on a trip, than we know you would agree! Here are a few things they’ve been up to this summer:
Naturalist and photography guide Philip Stone (top left), had his photo (bottom left) selected as part of Nikon Canada’s 2017 Professional Members Exhibition Tour. Congratulations Phil!
Mate Drew Hyslop (top right), dazzled us with his dapper wear when he was recently interviewed to be Maple Leaf Adventure’s newest Adventure Travel Operations Assistant (aka Mariner with Office Skills). We are thrilled to have his experience and sense of humor here in the office and on board!
New Blog: Expedition Notes – Swell’s Alaska Supervoyage
Swell, a former tugboat, feels her youth again under the strain of a tow load
“The wheelhouse answered a call for assistance from a local Alaskan gill netter who had lost power. Fortunately the sea conditions were calm and Captain Dave Hollis orchestrated a towing operation to bring the vessel back into the dock at Warm Springs Bay. Yes!”
Photo of the Month
An incredible shot by Deckhand Jeff Reynolds while bear viewing along the shores of Southeast Alaska. Two eagles fight over the remnants of a close-by grizzly bear’s lunch. What a spectacular sight!
We have some pretty talented crew on board who double as amazing photographers! There’s no better place to practice with a camera than on Maple Leaf or Swell cruising through the endless inlets and fjords of our coastline.
What Guests Are Saying …
A special moment captured by Deckhand Jeff Reynolds
“One of our most memorable vacations ever.”
“I really want to call out what a great crew we had and how each and every one contributed to making this one of our most memorable vacations ever. The crew enjoyed the experience as much as we did. Their constant smiles, good humor, compatibility, knowledge  and skills made for a great experience.”
– Robert Wein, about an Alaska trip aboard Swell, 2017“A beautiful nature adventure”

“The converted tugboat Swell to the Great Bear Rainforest introduced us to a beautiful nature adventure with sea life (whales, seals, and sea lions), grizzly bears up close and many birds in their natural habitat. The accommodation and food were excellent. The crew was very knowledgeable and friendly. A very memorable experience..”
